Behind the Shadows of Deception-Chapter 5

JC kicked the door open with his foot and closed his umbrella placing it in the corner on the floor.

Mya immediately went to the kitchen, "You do have a big ass kitchen." She called out to him. "Bigger than mine."

JC followed to the kitchen. He wanted to see what she was doing. Did she go straight to the fridge to fix something to eat? If so it didn’t take her long to forget that she was soak and wet and might catch a cold, which is all she ranted about in the car.

"Really I have to see it some time." He replied to her comment. Mya lifted her eyes to look at him.

"Don’t push your luck JC." JC muttered to himself. "…Um could I get you something dry to change into?"

"Oh damn, I forgot I was wet. Where’s your bathroom?"

"Go straight upstairs and it’s the fourth room on your right." He instructed.

Mya nodded. "I see you got food in your fridge can you make me a sandwich please." She smiled and ran upstairs into the bathroom.

"Wow…" Was all he could say.

JC sat down on the couch dressed in a pair of loose sweat pants and a white tee shirt. He grabbed the remote, flicking through all the channels while he waited for Mya to come down. There was absolutely nothing on now that interested him, so he tossed the remote aside and grabbed the journal, which rested in his lap. He glanced in the hall a few times to see if she was standing there; she wasn’t.

He still couldn’t believe she agreed to come here. Didn’t she think he would try something? She had to; he was sending her signals all night, as was she, he thought so. The nonstop rainstorm had to be her reason for staying, he thought. On the other hand, maybe she wanted to explore her feelings if there were any.

JC opened her journal. He knew he was taking a risk reading her journal while she was right here in his house, but he had to know if making the next move was justifiable, would she accept it? Coincidentally, he flipped to the page, which consisted of her thoughts of how she would know if she was attracted to guy or not and what made them attractive to her. When he said her book was similar to a "How to do book" he was just being silly, but it all seemed so true. Here her journal was lying before him, revealing everything he wanted to know that she wasn’t telling him.

January 28, 2002

9:45 p.m.

…As I was saying before the guy didn’t even approach me, make a move, nothing. I don’t know if it was because I was with my friends, if he was scared of me or because of my bodyguards, they’re big and protective of me. I guess they should be since that’s what I pay them for. Anyway he never came over there and he was cute too! (Nice smile, good hair, you know the whole nine) And my friends were urging me to approach him instead, of course I didn’t. I mean I have no problem with approaching guys in public just because I’m a celebrity. It’s just...what do I need with a shy guy when I’m shy myself, that doesn’t make sense! I want somebody to bring the adventurous side out of me cuz I can be adventurous when I want to. I like to take risk, shock the hell out of people (that’s always fun to watch!). I want some one who enjoys life and living it. Okay well I’m getting sleepy and tired of writing, so until next time.

10:15 p.m. (closed)

JC quickly tossed the book under the couch at the sound of movement.

"I hope there’s no mice under there." He looked up to see Mya making her way towards him. He stretched out on the couch. She looked good in his clothes. Better than he did.

"What’s that you were reading?" She wondered.

He tried to think of something quick, "Um the weekly TV Guide." He lied.

"Oh really is anything good on?"

"Not a damn thing."

Mya laughed. Suddenly the clashing of the thunder startled her and she jumped on the couch, her body stretched out next to his, "Ugh. I hate thunder." She groaned.

"Yeah me too." JC also groaned. "Do you mind shifting your weight some?"

Mya turned over on her side so that she was facing him, "Oh shit! I am so sorry. Are you okay?" She moved her elbow.

"Unh huh." JC rubbed his stomach.

"I’m really sorry." She apologized again.

"I’m okay Mya."

"Alright. Well I’m gonna take a quick nap."

"You can go sleep in one of the guest rooms if you like. They’re comfortable and clean might I add."

Mya giggled. "Are you worried that I’ll get nasty drool all over nice couch." She rubbed her cheek against the soft cushion with a lazy smile.

JC laughed, watching as she slowly started to close her eyes. He resisted the urge to kiss her although his thoughts told him to. "JC, you're an idiot." He groaned and turned his attention back to the television.

~*~*~*~*~

Mya yawned fluttering her eyes open, the warmth of JC’s body no longer next to her. She glanced at the clock on the television and groaned, "I didn’t want to sleep that long." She had been sleeping for almost two hours.

Mya sat up, pulling the curtain back to look out the window. It was still raining, the streets were filled with puddles and she could hear the screeching of tires from afar. She shook her head, there was no way she was going to ride home in that, "I guess I’m just going to have to stay here tonight." She didn’t mind, in fact she enjoyed his company almost too much. She got up from the couch following the delicious aroma that had escaped from the kitchen.

"Oh well look at you in here cooking up a storm." She joked with her hands on her hips.

JC turned towards her, "Ha ha, very funny." He smirked.

Mya laughed, "What are you making?" She walked up next to him.

"I just finished making your sandwich."

"So are you staying tonight or do I have to drive you home in the rainstorm." He pouted.

Mya rolled her eyes, picking up her sandwich, "Don’t be cute. And yes I’m staying." She walked over to the table

JC followed her and smiled for two reasons, one she thought he was cute and two she was staying over so he didn’t have to drive. He pulled her chair out and pushed it in after she sat down.

"Aww you’re such a sweetie." She smiled and he blushed a little.

He sat down still hearing those thoughts and now his heart was agreeing with them too, "Shut up please!"

Mya looked at him confused, "Damn I just said you were sweet…."

Sighing, JC realized he said that out loud, "Oh no I wasn’t talking to you. I was talking to…never mind." He decided if he took the time to explain he would look more stupid than he already did.

"Are you okay?" She asked biting into her sandwich.

"Yeah I’m cool." He rubbed his temples as her intense stare was melting him.

"Mmm..." Mya’s tongue emerged and slowly licked her lips, and then she smacked them together. "Damn this is good, why didn’t you make yourself one?" She licked her lips again.

JC winced while watching her moisten her lips, making her lips look more delicious than any sandwich he would ever make. "I wasn’t hungry."

"Oh." Mya nodded, as she was finishing up her sandwich. Her tongue snaked out to lick the mayonnaise from the corner of her mouth.

"Hey do you want to do something when you finish eating?" JC inquired, placing his elbows on the table and using his hands to hold his chin up. He trying not to focus too much on her lips.

"Sure you look bored." She giggled. "What do you have in mind?"

"You play cards?"

"Black jack?"

"No. Poker."

"I play a little." Mya said pondering the idea. "You got any drinks? Can’t play cards without drinks."

JC shook his head in disbelief. "Yeah I got drinks," He got up from the table. "What you want?"

"Whatever you got."

"Okay I’ll go whip something up. The cards are in the basement on the small wooden table."

Mya got up from the table, "I’ll meet you down stairs." She smiled at him before turning the corner and running downstairs.

It was something about that smile. Something secretive. Something deliciously dangerous.
