Behind the Shadows of Deception-Chapter 4
Mya moved her last piece of furniture back against the wall before plopping down on her bed. She had searched her entire room last night until earlier this morning with no luck of finding her journal. In fact, she couldn't remember the last place she saw it, which didn't help her situation.
She folded her arms across her chest, desperately attempting to recall the event in her head, "I remember writing in it...but where was I, when I was writing in it!" She screamed, not even considered calling JC, someone who knew exactly where it was. She intended to find it by herself without disturbing anyone else.
Mya stood up dragging herself into the bathroom to shower and change. She figured a nice warm bath with bubbles would allow her to refrain from the tension. She undressed, stepping out of her clothes and turned on the water, adding scented bubbles. When her foot landed on the surface of the tub, the phone rung.
She wrapped herself in a body length towel and grabbed the phone from her room.
"Talk to me." Mya answered. She heard laughter on the other end as a response. She knew exactly who it was.
"JC why are you laughing at me?" She placed the phone in the crook of her neck and turned the water off.
"Oh so you know my voice now?"
Mya smirked, "Of cours, I've gotten accustomed to it." That was true. Before she had to ask who was calling, but now she could always identify his voice.
"So what are you doing?" JC fell back on his bed, placing his hands behind his head as he looked up at the stars.
"Well I was just about to take a bath with strawberry scented bubbles until you called." She gushed, dipping her hand into the hot water and blowing foam from it.
JC gulped while trying to contain himself as he heard the splashing in the background. Part of him wishing she never said that and the other, of course glad that she had.
"Okay. I call you later then." He hung up quickly before waiting for a response from her.
Mya pulled the telephone away from her ear, shaking her head laughing. She placed the telephone on the edge of sink and slid down in the tub.

A few days later
After rehearsal, Mya entered her house, falling back on the couch as she checked her answer machine for messages. She listened to the first few messages from her friends and others for business purposes. She skipped to the last message because the rest didn't seem of any interest to her, especially since she was just informed that she had two photo shoots and a magazine interview next week.
A smile slowly crept up at the corners of her mouth as she listened to the voice, which she recognized immediately. His voice was low and smooth with a hint of existing flirtatiousness. She wondered if he was doing that purposely. She noticed he always talked to her that way unless he was nervous about something.
"...Oh I got to hurry up before this thing cuts me off. I'll see you at eight, be ready. Bye." He ended the call.
Mya pushed herself up from the couch proceeding to her room to get dress.
~*~*~*~*~
Mya was applying the finishing touches to her appearance when suddenly there was a knock at the door.
She slipped her feet into her heels and went to answer the door, "You're always early." Mya smirked with her hand placed against her hip.
"Oh, so I see you got my message." JC smiled stealing quick glances of her.
"Yes I did." Mya smiled back as she reached out to hug him. She sighed softly against him, overwhelmed by the aroma of his cologne, which he wore due to the fact that he knew it was her favorite. He had been reading up on many things lately, but nothing too personal yet.
"Oh so where are we going?" Mya pulled away from him slightly.
"Well it's this fair in town and I thought--" He was interrupted quickly by her ecstatic behavior.
"Ooh the fair, come on let's go..." Mya pulled him towards the car before he could say anything else. She wrapped her arms around herself.
JC noticed her sudden gesture of uneasiness, "What's wrong?" He expressed, concerned.
"It's kind of chilly. Let me go back and get my jacket..." She turned back towards the house, but JC grabbed her hand.
"No that's okay, you can borrow mine." JC offering, opening her door. Mya blushed in response as she climbed into the car.
"Score one for JC." He congratulated himself after shutting her door and walking over to the driver side.
~*~*~*~*~
Mya sat patiently on the bench with JC's coat draped over her shoulders as she waited for him to park the car. It was surprising how much she was enjoying her time spent with him. Usually when she went out with a guy, the date usually consisted of a conversation about her looks or he would stare at her the entire night. Although during the conversations she shared with JC in the car, he stared too but she could sense genuine interest towards her.
JC spotted her sitting on the bench with her legs crossed one over the other as the wind blew through her hair. He couldn't believe how well their 'date' was going.
While in the car she smiled and laughed at everything he said, how many people actually did that? It was like he knew what topics interested her most. To him her journal was like a "How to do" book or better yet a gift from God.
"You ready?"
"Yeah." Mya stood up and linked her arm with his, snuggling against him as they walked towards the fair.
After they purchased a funnel cake for the two of them to share, they sat down at one of the small round tables.
For a while, JC just stared at her as she ate parts of the funnel cake piece by piece.
Mya looked up finally noticing it. She brushed a lock of hair behind her ear shyly, "Do you want some?" She offered sliding the plate over to him. "I mean I don't want to eat it all." She laughed.
"No that's okay. I'm fine." He'd rather continue watching her.
Mya frowned, "But I thought we were supposed to be sharing." She pouted knowing he could never resist.
JC sighed breaking off a piece and stuffing it in his mouth.
She smiled, "Thank you."
He finished the last of the funnel cake, and then got up to throw the plate away before joining her back at the table. Mya laughed lightly as she stood.
"What's so funny?" JC wondered.
"Are you cold? You look a little cold, youre blushing, and you have nothing to blush about. Here you can have your jacket back..." She offered slipping it slightly off her shoulders.
"No it's not that bad just a little windy..." He rubbed his hands over her shoulders, pushing the coat up.
"Ooh come on let's get on that." Mya beamed like a child pointing to the Ferris wheel as she dragged him towards the ride.
~*~*~*~*~
They walked back towards the parking lot, snuggled against each other. JC was really enjoying the closeness between them now. He could tell she was letting her guard down and opening up to him. However, he felt somewhat guilty, like he was using her...to get with her. But he did indeed acquire valuable thoughts of hers, which made it easier for him to come forth to her the way he did.
"...Okay whatever you say Joshua." Mya smirked, pushing away the hair that was blowing in her face.
He didn't like being called Joshua, but it didn't sound so bad coming from her. "I'm serious..." JC laughed lightly and wrapped his arm around her waist.
She immediately stopped walking and lifted her head to look at him. He stopped laughing.
"Did I say something wrong?" He figured she took his sign of affection the wrong way. Maybe he was getting too close.
"Mya I-" JC stammered over his words, expecting to her to go off on him.
"Nothing," was all she said instead, and rested her head against him. She actually didn't mind him holding her close like that. It felt nice and it was keeping her warm too.
JC sighed with relief along with confusion. He wondered why she didn't say anything after that.
"So are we going back to your house?" Mya asked changing the subject as she hugged the huge teddy bear JC won for her.
"I guess. If you want."
"Sure. I want to see what you're house looks like."
"It's nothing much. Too many rooms, huge kitchen, big ass basement, and my room's kind of a mess right now."
"Don't worry I won't be seeing you're room tonight." She grinned.
JC raised his eyebrows inquisitively. What is she hinting at? Or...
What if she was letting him know that he'd never ever have a chance with her, so no need to even show her his room. Okay JC you're getting way over yourself, just let things progress as it is.
The loud roar of the thunder clashing in the sky startled them. And in a sudden second, heavy drops of rain poured down on them as if someone was standing above with a huge bucket of water. Mya squealed angrily, screaming about her hair frizzing.
JC pulled out the umbrella and hovered it over them, although they were already wet. He was surprised at how fast the rain managed to soak through her clothes.
Despite the fact that she was drenched to the bone, he thought she looked sexy. Well of course he would, number one he was a man and number two he was seeing things that the rain kindly offered to display to him. Maybe she shouldn't have worn such thin material for a shirt, JC thought, then he grinned, but the pink lace bra is nice!
"JC could you snap out of it for one second and open my door." Mya pleaded brushing her wet hair away from her face.
He did as told. He closed her door and walked over to his side.
